Early Detection Testing

Early Detection Testing

Healthy on the outside? Let’s see what’s happening inside.

When your pet seems happy and healthy, lab testing may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But wellness testing can give us valuable information about your pet’s health before obvious signs of a problem appear.

At Village Veterinary Hospital, our Early Detection Profile is designed specifically for healthy pets. By evaluating important health markers and establishing a baseline when your pet is well, we can better monitor changes over time and identify results that may warrant further evaluation.

What Is an Early Detection Profile?

An Early Detection Profile combines blood and urine testing to give our veterinary team a more complete picture of your pet’s current health.

The profile includes:

Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Evaluates red and white blood cells and platelets, providing important information about your pet’s overall health, such as the presence of anemia, inflammation, infection, or possible immune-mediated diseases.

Full Chemistry Panel
Evaluates important health markers, including those associated with organ function.

Thyroid Testing
Evaluates thyroid function and can help identify changes that may require additional investigation.

Urinalysis
Provides information about urinary health and can reveal changes that complement the results of your pet’s blood testing.

Why Test a Healthy Pet?

One of the greatest benefits of wellness testing is that it allows us to learn what’s normal for your pet.

Establish a Baseline

Every pet is an individual. Testing while your pet is healthy establishes baseline values that we can reference when evaluating future lab results.

Identify Changes Earlier

Pets can’t tell us when something feels different, and some health changes may occur before noticeable symptoms develop. Routine testing gives us another opportunity to identify changes that may need further evaluation.

Track Your Pet’s Health Over Time

When testing is repeated as recommended by your veterinarian, we can compare current results with previous ones. These trends can provide valuable information and help us make more informed recommendations about your pet’s care.

Wellness Care Goes Deeper

A physical exam tells us a great deal about your pet, but it can’t tell us everything. Combining regular wellness exams with appropriate lab testing helps us build a more complete picture of your pet’s health.

The Early Detection Profile is intended for healthy/well patients as part of proactive wellness care. If your pet is sick or showing symptoms, your veterinarian may recommend different diagnostic testing based on their individual needs.
